THE HISTORY

OF

THE "GLOWING DIAMOND" CHAPTER

On March 17, 1974, the dream of our illustrious founders made its presence on the campus of the predominately White University of Alabama. Eta chi became the first black, greek-lettered organization at the Capstone. Starting as an extension of Epsilon Epsilon chapter at nearby Stillman College, we received our charter and name on February 8,1975. The chapter strives to meet the expectations of the fraternity's fundamental purpose-Achievement. The first and only black SGA president at The University of Alabama was Cleophus Thomas, a member of Eta Chi. Being a member of the Southern Province, we are one of the few chapters in the Province to have two Guy L. Grant award winners, Cleophus Thomas and Keflyn Reed. Such outstanding achievements are why we are the "Glowing Diamond" of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. With the emergence of the Eta Chi chapter, our founder's dream has become a reality.
